Latin Name: Salvia

Family: Lamiaceae (Labiatae)

Main action: Anti-inflammatory.

The herb is an important component of tonic and calming mixtures for nervous tension and depression. Lowers blood pressure, acts as a pain reliever, regulates the menstrual cycle, relieves menopause problems. It is used for skin inflammations, reduces hair loss, slows down skin aging. Strengthens the immune system.

Widespread: Cultivated on the plains, rarely found wild. Widespread in the European part of the Mediterranean.

Content: Up to 2.5% essential oil containing cineole, borneol, thujone, camphor, tannins, triterpenic acids (oleanol and ureolic) and alcohol (uvaol).

Drug used: The leaves. (Flora Salviae).
