Latin Name: Origanum vulgare

Family: Lamiaceae (Labiatae)

Main action: Expectorant, digestive stimulant.

It has a strong antioxidant effect, thanks to its high content of phenolic acids and flavonoids. It also has antimicrobial activity against food-borne pathogens. Antioxidant properties help fight free radicals in the body that cause cell damage and aging. Oregano extract is used to treat yeast infections, indigestion, stomach disorders, intestinal parasites, and painful menstruation. It has a strong calming effect and guarantees a restful sleep.

Widespread: It grows in thickets, sparse forests and forest glades. It is found throughout Europe up to 2 000 meters above sea level.

Content: Essential oil 0.5-1%, tannins, bitter substances sitosterols, vitamin C, mineral salts and others. The essential oil consists of a significant amount of thymol and less carvacrol, p-cymol, myrcene, ocimene and others.

Drug used: Top stem parts collected during flowering, dried at ordinary temperature (Hebra Origani).
